I believe that when you die, everything goes black. There is no heaven, there is no afterlife, no reincarnation, nothing. There is no soul.
However, in some cases the brain has shown intense, rapid activity shortly before shutting down. This is probably a "dream" state and you may dream up your entire life in a matter of seconds, hence the saying "My life flashed before my eyes". This dream may even seem like some form of haven, or a nightmare.
The human brain is powerful, beyond its own comprehension.
But the idea of an afterlife or a soul is silly to say the least.
Reincarnation is a broad idea and I believe there may be some form of it. One without the idea of a soul invading a separate organism. I believe that a consciousness that ceases to exist brings light to a new one. Unfortunately I can't find any other way to put this in wording as I don't really fully understand my own view on the idea.
It all boils down to this; death is a mystery that cannot be solved. At least not with our current perception of the matter. All I know is that life has a will to live and I don't believe it to be without reason. If there was a haven after death, then why fear it?

Do you only read twentieth century books?
That last spark of activity is simply a defense mechanism of your dieing braincells. "Let's get this sucker running again! Quickly!"
Having your life flash before your eyes is simply a heightened sense of awareness because of the amount of stress that's being put out.
The brain isn't beyond our comprehension. It's beyond comprehension of scientists in 1990.

Death is not a mystery. Human idiocy is a mystery. Only humans are dumb enough to find clouded complexity in simplicity.

But I still don't understand how death could not be a mystery. Yes, logic would give a logical answer to its questioning, but not the truth.
And I'm obviously pulling all of this from my ass so feel free to fill in more information that I may still be missing.

What I believe is that; when we die our soul ascends into heaven temporarily, and when our time comes we are reincarnated into another human being or animal that was just born. While you are up in heaven, you have the time to rejoice with your loved ones and God, but when you are reincarnated your memory is wiped, as in; nothing from your previous life or knowledge gets passed on. The reason why babies cry when they are born is due to when you are getting reincarnated into that baby, while your souls memory is getting wiped, you remember of the good times you had with your loved ones that you naturally do not want to leave or forget about, that you simply cry or have emotion for crying and do not want to let go of those feelings/memories you once had. Once you start crying as in have the emotion to cry, that is the exact moment your soul is transferred into the newborn baby.
I believe that the general emotions are programmed into the soul, but when you are born and raised, it is the new parents genes that determine how you use the pre programmed emotions or if you use them at all.
Good shit I was on eh? | How can you temporarily rejoice your loved ones when they should be reincarnated already?

This doesn't make sense to me even if I were to believe in such a thing as the soul (which I don't), due to the following:
#1 Development of personality and emotions happen before a child is born. There have been studies where twins who were in and out of the womb have shown aggression, dominance and submission. For example the twin who kicked the other twin in the womb would grow up to be assertive later in life, where the one being kicked kept a submissive attitude.
#2 A chemical mixture is the cause for any emotion you feel. So when you're no longer inside a physical body, what would make you want to see your loved ones, if you can't feel love anymore.
#3 Memory is comprised of more than just an image. You have sight, but also sound, smell, etc. How is decided what memory you take with you? Not to mention the way the brain works would require you to posses a similar storage unit like the brain, which functions on electric impulses to store and remember memories. So there needs to be a transference between the physical and heavenly body, which would be impossible as both use a different form of energy (I assume, as the presence of a soul has yet to be measured).
#4 There of course could also be the assumption that the brain and soul are set up as some divine RAID1 setup, where the brain and soul both register memories. If this were true, and the brain and soul were intertwined in such a manner, then the manipulation of one would not affect the other. I could bash your skull in, and you would still be able to remember everything that had happened. As would people suffering from Dementia.
So in conclusion, that was some terrible 'shit' you were on.

I didn't even notice this giant flaw. Well done. According to his story, heaven should be empty.

I have firsthand experience, having been dead for about 60 seconds before.
It's pretty much black nothing.
Also felt like a week went by.
