On an indirect question, which one could be considered "better", or is it just personal prefferences?

"They asked whether I'm okay."
or
"They asked if I'm okay"

Also, on indirekt speech, my english teacher wants anything to be set in past.

so:

They said: "It's dangerous to go out alone in the night."

"They told her it was dangerous to go out alone in the night."
It's still dangerous so I'm not sure.

First of all, its not indirekt, its indirect, you almost never use k before t.

They asked if I'm okay is the proper one to use.

The last one is correct, unless im looking at it wrong.

It's just a difference in perspective that determines how the sentence should be phrased

That sentence sounds really funny in my head... I think it should be "go out alone at night"?

"They asked whether I was okay."
whether would better suit the sentence if it was in past tense

I'm not an English grammar expert so I may be wrong Razz

"Tell me if you're ok" -> "Tell me only if you're ok".
"Tell me whether you're ok" -> "Tell me if you're ok or not".
As a general rule, if introduces one condition, while whether introduces alternatives. If none's expressed, "or not" is implied.

They asked whether I was okay or not. See the problem there is that they asked already, hence it's in the past tense.It's just a difference in perspective that determines how the sentence should be phrased .

Whether (to me at least) Implies there should be multiple choices.
They asked whether I was ok or not.
