Go through Aim option's see if there is a run on startup check box.
If so untick it...

XP: Go to C:\Documents and Settings\User\Start Menu\Start up
I think thats the start up folder in XP...
Vista: Go to C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Start up
See if you can see any Aim file in their, if so delete it...

Start>Run>regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
See if there is an AIM key in there.
If so delete it... Don't delete anything else...

Also as sup3r said.
Start>run>msconfig
Startup tab
Untick Aim from there...

If those don't work then Uninstall and re-install...
There may be in option during installation for that...

Don't bother going into your windows files when you can just untick the box (in SETTINGS) that makes AIM startup when you turn the computer on.
