Isn't as stable? What do you mean?

Resource using? Yes. Stronger? No. Yes, Vista looks good, but that's about it. DX10 is far slower than DX9 (though that may just be because of the games, not DX10 itself). Vista uses at least twice the RAM of XP, leaving much more for other programs; Vista is more taxing on the video card; Vista is more taxing on the CPU; I could go on and on. I'll admit, Vista, at release, was much better than XP, at release, but, with SP2, XP is still a lot better.

Maybe I'll think Vista is the better operating system after a few service packs are released, but, at the time being, XP is, still, the better operating system.

To the thread starter: don't use Vista, yet. Wait until a few service packs are released. Vista uses too much resources and isn't as stable as XP, for the time being.

A semi-related article that might be somewhat interesting to read: Link.

With 2gb RAM, who cares if Vista uses only twice as much?

I'm saying, at the moment, it's more prone to crashing. The stability issues should probably be fixed with a few service packs.

In my opinion, Windows needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, so anything new that's not been completely re-written, by Microsoft, I'm against. I just feel XP doesn't have as much needless crap as Vista.

It's DESIGNED to use ram, it tries to very aggressively cache things and keep things in memory based on user patterns in order to speed things up.

It's the way it works in vista, it using ram is a GOOD thing, NOT bad. If something else needs the memory, it gets freed.

DX10 as an API is superior to DX9.

I care. Because during my 6 months of using Vista, I monitored RAM usage. It kept going up and up and up until I clicked "optimize RAM Usage." Seriously now, I don't think it's worth clicking "optimize ram" every 20 minutes. And the fact that everything is cached on RAM is just plain inefficient. It's causing the computer to run slower than normal. Caching just defeats the purpose.

Please explain how DX10's API is any better than DX9.
