heres what i wrote down at 3 am last night
'energy cannot be created nor destroyed' must apply to time as well, if nothing could be truly destroyed, the past could not exist, and if nothing can be created then the future cannot exist either, only the present and everything in it could.
we have no proof of the past actually happening that does not rely on the present, which makes it biased, we would need an external source that is unaffected by time to show us proof of the past or future.
as an example, a photo could not prove the past because it is only an arrangement of light particles reflecting off of a particular surface, which could be reproduced or faked.
this is why time travel could not actually happen in a traditional sense, world lines would have to exist, except they would not be world lines they'd be world dots, points where existences exist, with lines connecting these dots but not through time, in some other form of constant, some type of energy.

Why would it? Time as we know it is not even a tangible thing, it's a concept
| Brolock wrote: | | if nothing could be truly destroyed, the past could not exist |
Wouldn't that equal the opposite?

People generally perceive time as a line.
It's more reasonable to perceive it as a 3-dimensional field that extends endlessly in all directions.

Wouldn't that equal the opposite? | because time as a concept relies on it 'moving forward' but if we don't think of it as 'moving forward' and only as existing, then it shares similar properties to energy.
it wouldn't equal the opposite, it'd show that what we have now, things retaining the 'memories' of their 'past' forms, as not being destroyed.

You're thinking about it wrong
Time is a "concept" and it does function like energy.
When you punch something kinetic energy travels from your shoulder to your knuckles to the wall through the wall and into everything the wall is connected to.
When something happens in "time" there are consequences ALWAYS and those consequences are what does not get destroyed. You're just looking at it wrong.

dude shut up I simplified it for the non-martial artists.
I would never punch like that and you know it.

lmao of course it's a man-made concept. Just like length and depth.
We've just put name to something so it's easier to measure and understand.

thus if it is a man made concept, anything is possible such as time travel...
just because their are laws that are man made, it does not restrict the concept of time travel/other ideas. | Dumbass

Now look, those so called "laws" you're talking about are not the same as the man-made laws of the different governmental systems we have around the world.
Are you just going to say "screw gravity" and fly out of the atmosphere because you don't want to obey the law of gravity? No. You're not, I can tell you this because you can't.
"Laws" regarding time; I haven't really heard of em' could be great if you linked me.
We know that we perceive stuff through our 5 senses. Touch, smell, taste, hearing and seeing. All of that stuff is then transmitted to our brain through electrical signals and interpreted. Which means we cannot perceive the world quicker than the speed of those signals.
What we see is light being reflected, stuff that is black absorbs light and as such is dark stuff that is lighter reflects more light and is lighter for us.
Now. Stuff that is superluminal we cannot see, stuff that is supersonic we cannot hear. We are basically living in the past and we have things that are invisible to us.
Anything you experience is delayed not just once or twice but a lot of times. If you moved into a room that was COMPLETELY dark and then turned on a source of light there would be a delay from when the room was dark to when it is lit but also a delay from when your eyes see the light to when you know (when you've translated the signal from your eyes) it is lit.
Time-travel is very far-fetched as an idea. The future does not exist to us yet and the past doesn't exist either. I believe if time travel is ever going to be possible it's going to be at superluminal speeds (which is not possible afaik) and it's ONLY going to be to the future. Time-travel to the past is never going to be possible as far as I am aware.

You are wrong because you have no proof that you are right.
Stop talking like everything you say is law, fucking hypocrite.
People scoffed at flying in the air and then suddenly wright brothers.
I'm sure we'll find a way to defy gravity entirely at some point.

That also, there is no defying something that doesn't issue orders.
I didn't stop to consider etymology in a physics discussion, thank you based brolock.
