Traditional method of clearing out stuff and making money: Have a garage sale.
This involves an entire day of prep by setting up tables and organizing shit into boxes, hanging clothes on a wheeling rack, etc.
Then you have to advertise on craigslist, get up shit ass early in the morning and drag everything into your driveway, and brace yourself as a horde of mexicans washes over your house.
Nobody will even want half your stuff, and half the people interested in the other half won't get it anyway, and out of the quarter of all people that actually ask you for a price, maybe 10% actually buy something.
Most of it is petty stuff, like a box of legos for $2, or a lampshade for $3, you get lucky to sell the old TV or kitchen table.
All in all, you spend 2 days working hard, get rid of about a quarter of the stuff you dragged out, and make $300 tops.
My method:
Take all your shit to charity, get a tax write off for a few hundred dollars, sell the slip to someone for $50 or so less than it's worth, and bam.
You've gotten rid of ALL of your stuff and made $550.
