Not sure where this belongs (possible in the spam section?) but i choose to put here since its a problem with this website. I sometimes gets pop-ups from this website. Its not because i get PM's.
my pop-up blocker blocks them of course, but its annoying when the message comes up "Pop-up Window Blocked"
anyone else seen this?

Adware?...
The only reason you get a popup should be because you have a new PM in your inbox.

If you are geting popups you have spy/adware/data miners installed yes.
Everyone has something of this sort on their pc, Just the ones that are noticed are seen in process and makes popups or decrease system performance.
If anyone says they dont have any of this, they are mistaken.

| Google doesn't do pop-ups, so it has to be adware.

I disagree. I am using Gentoo Linux and I assure you I do not have any viruses, trojans, adware, spyware, or rootkits.
Even on Windows it is possible to keep your computer free of infections by using a decent Web browser and making sure you have either a software firewall or a hardware firewall (most routers have built-in firewalls). Use antivirus (AVG Free and Avast are free) and antispyware applications (Spybot and Ad-Aware are free) to prevent known malware. A good extra precaution is to only use an administrator account when you need to install software that requires it.
If you follow these guidelines and use common sense (meaning don't run random executables), your computer will stay clean.

if your using an admin account its also worth going into your security policies and enabling
Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
next down the list I like to also enable
Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares,
as well as the adaware and spybot I like XP-ANTISPY
that turns off a lot of crap in an easy way,
then like you know turn off as many uneeded services as possible,
telnet, dcom, all remote services, and once you got all your most needed core stuff installed turn off volume shadow copy as well until you need it,
still have to try a linux partition sometime on my pc,, heard its fast and stable as well as secure
