Been experimenting with Stealth Edit and it seems to work exactly as expected with CE 6.5, but for some reason the version of 6.5 that I got from the github releases runs really glitchy. Like even just clicking something in the GUI has a delayed effect, before I've even done anything with CE or SE. It remains oddly glitchy and laggy the entire time. No other version of CE has given me this issue so I was trying to get SE to work with other versions...
The problem is so far in my testing with Stealth Edit, it only works 100% as expected with 6.5 but not any of the more recent CE versions I tried.
I tried taking the source of 6.5 and compiling with Lazarus 2.2.2 and also Lazarus 3 and both had various errors, so I wasn't able to try a compiled version.
Upon more searching I've found different suggestions for different combinations of this or that ver of CE with this or that ver of SE, etc... but I was wondering if anyone here can confirm with certainty what the best combination of CE+SE we're left with is? From what I can tell, SE doesn't get updated any longer so it's a matter of which download file really IS the most recent version available to us and also which version of CE would work the best with it, while hopefully not being the glitchy 6.5 I am using currently with SE.
edit: Also if anyone knows which version of Lazarus I could use to compile my own 6.5, that also would be handy to know.

I cannot speak about which version is most suitable. The original author of SE is no longer with us, so any updates are highly unlikely at this point.
DB incorporated the cloaking feature, which should work in a similar fashion, but may require DBVM. |

That is among the 3 or so versions I have been experimenting with, yes. Same result with this one was that it worked perfectly, even the extra feature to display checks, on 6.5 only. I tried it on an old copy of 6.7 I had and it wasn't working correctly for me (typically freezing and/or crashing game) even though that post mentions 6.7. Same issues with newer CE versions too, as I saw a post somewhere suggesting it worked even up in the CE ver 7's.
So yes if that's the most recent update anywhere I will stick with that one for SE, but is there anything you can suggest about getting a smoother version of CE 6.5? Or a specific version I might look up other than 6.5 or 6.7 that you know would fully work with this SE?

I have briefly looked into DBVM cloak but didn't find much on it. It's definitely on my radar but I currently know less about how to even test it on the fly and see if it's doing what I expect, whereas with SE I have been able to pretty easily see proof that it's doing the job (when using CE 6.5).
If you have any videos or tutorials for DBVM cloak you think would be good for starting up with it, please let me know. The typical google searches I've done have only brought me limited results and nothing really seemed clear as far as if there's a way to test by hand if it's working (before writing scripts for it). |
