Normally, I'd like to think that I'm pretty decent at doing basic things with Cheat Engine, like finding the addresses for values that I'm able to easily manipulate, such as (in this case particularly) the values for an RPG's stat distributing system.
Currently, I'm trying to get a particular RPG's stat assignment system hacked, and I just can't seem to do it using any of the normal methods I've used, or any other methods I've seen around, and I need some help because I'm at a loss here, and I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing. To explain the specific system I'm trying to manipulate, I've got what is essentially a "point pool" which displays, and a series of "attributes" with +/- markers next to them, to increase or decrease them, drawing from the point pool. Plenty of games have these, and I've manipulated plenty of them before, but for some reason, in this particular instance, I can't get it to work.
I've tried a few methods, as follows:
1. Starting the scan with the exact value of the "point pool", and as I cause it to increase or decrease, scanning for the new number. My standard starting method, doesn't seem to work.
2. Essentially the inverse of 1, where I start with the exact value of one of the "attributes", and scan as I cause it to be increased or decreased.
3. Starting with an unknown initial value, and scanning for increase/decrease as I cause the "stat pool" to increase/decrease (as appropriate)
4. The inverse of 3; starting with an unknown initial value, and scanning for increase/decrease as I cause the "attribute" to increase/decrease (as appropriate)
5. Starting with an unknown initial value, and scanning for change/unchanged as I change the values of the "stat pool" and the "attribute".
All 5 methods have been attempted using any range of value types, from single bytes to "all", with the CE settings set to include all sizes when searching for "all" value types. I have it set to Fast Scan off, with MEM_PRIVATE, MEM_IMAGE, and MEM_MAPPED all set to being scanned. I have tried other value types in this game, such as health pools, item counts, money amount, and more, and nothing, no matter what method I use, is willing to let me find it.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't find anything at all that seems to affect this damn game?[/list] |
