So I've been trying to find the base address of item pedestals in The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+

I am able to find the dynamic address of the item pedestal, and change it at will. I then select "Find out what accesses this address", and look at the debugger. I take the guess the debugger gives me, do a hex search for it and I get one green address. I have done this process several times, and every time the exact same green address pops up. I add this address manually, with the pointer provided to me by the debugger and it points to the expected address.

However, if I leave this address in my table and restart the game it no longer works. If I readd the address manually it does not work. The weird thing is, if I leave the address in my table and go through the whole process, then attach the debugger on the new dynamic address, as soon as I touch the item pedestal my table updates and my base address is now pointing to the correct address.

Every single time the base address is the same (619B8F78) and so is the offset (2C) no matter how many times I restart the game. But unless I find the dynamic address and watch it with the debugger, it's useless. No information actually changes, but the debugger must be attached for it to point to the correct address.

I hope this makes sense. I've been searching around and I can't find an answer anywhere, so I'm very confused and I hope someone here can help

I'm just guessing, but probably is not a debugger fault, instead since you've searched for "what access this address" maybe you've found a pointer that points to an address that stores an item in your inventory (with it's own criteria)... maybe this happens when you click the item ingame, or you do something with that item.

Instead of searching for the pointer manually, do a pointer scan , restart the game, filter out the wrong pointers, repeat until you find a correct pointer.

I hope this helped so far Wink

Well whenever I do a pointer scan, it goes over and over and after it gets down to a few thousand my next scan comes up with 0 results, which is why I was trying manual method. I have done pointer scan so many times and it's always 0 results.
