How do I cheat?

I'm fairly new at using cheat engine but i have gotten it to work before without a problem on forza horizon 3, but now im having lots of problems. when editing my money the game always crashes even when using VEH debugger. when i right click to find what writes to an address, nothing shows up and the game then crashes. please help! ive watched lots of videos and cannot find a solution or work around. thanks
