Could be how the game was made...but I can't really answer any of your questions since I don't really know what you're doing to achieve those results.

Wasn't there a way to move your character around in free mode or something? If you can move from one spot to another (not with an action screen, but with your mouse clicks), then you should be able to do as previously described.

At a loss.
62 processes that change when moving the character.
If I freeze them or nop them, there is no effect on the game.

What am I missing?

You may not be capturing the right values. Try to stay on one side of the circle when doing your scans, and just go back and forth and search for increased/decreased. If it doesn't work, switch your increased/decreased (e.g. move to the right and search increased, then move to the left and search decreased...if that doesn't work, move to the right and search decreased instead and vice versa). Make sure not to cross the center of the circle when doing your scans...just stay to one side the entire time.
