Family and everyone who knew him denounced the idea that he was Muslim as he hardly could be said to practice Islam. He was drinking alcohol, forbidden in Islam.
If you think ISIS or this guy is a representative of Muslims, Islam, or Islamic ideologies or values, you are very wrong. In fact, you are part of what motivated this unstable individual; not Islam.
So please do everyone a favour and recognize the multiple shooters as crazed patsies. Not Muslim by any mean. This is a white terrorist attack.

People don't think he has ties to ISIS because he's Muslim, they think he has ties to ISIS because he literally pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State.

He is representative of someone that pledged his allegiance to ISIS who (whether you admit it or not) are motivated by the same religious texts as yourself. Not every Muslim or even a majority of Muslims is represented by them but they are undeniably motivated by taking what it says in these books extremely literally.

ISIS does like the exact opposite of what the Quran says, I don't understand how they still have any followers.
Ok well they have sex slaves so I guess that's one reason why they still have followers. It's not about religion though, it's about power. And brainwashed kids who can't think for themselves who grow up to be brainwashed adults who can't think for themselves.
I mean it probably started off as some extreme religous jihad stuff but it has turned into something that doesn't have anything to do with Islam anymore at all.

No it definitely has a lot to do with Islam. They're quoting actual scripture to justify their actions. They're stretching it a fair bit further than some would say but it is still the literal text.
