And you're still drugs? No wonder you're a religious nut. I feel sorry for you dude, go seek help about your substance use/abuse. Your brain function really is only gonna get worse if you keep it up. Just the thought of using drugs whiles you have a mental disorder like that deffs doesn't seem like a good idea hearing it off the bat. You need help.

Just a reminder that Talix the Islam defender said this himself.
With that out of the way, since he defends and believes in Islam, how does the core Islam faith feel about me being bisexual?
I'll leave that up to hobbit boy here to clarify and explain to me with his great understanding of the Islamic(among others of course) faith. if he doesn't believe that I should be executed for being the way I am and not repenting, then he needs to be excommunicated from the Muslim community, as it is forbidden in Islam to give your own interpretation.
http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/026-homosexuality.htm
and just to raise another question, how does Islam feel about slavery?
I had no intentions of getting this involved with you guys here in CEF but he felt the need to publicize our conversation. so I thought I'd chime in.

Sigh. There are various things incorrect on both sides of this argument.
For starters, Kyle isn't "getting mad just because you said the word hebrew" and for you to assert such a claim is dishonest.
Moving on, Kyle says "and you religious studies won't net you an actual degree worth something or a job", is also, in my opinion, very wrong. Religious studies either have intrinsic worth, or it has no worth simply because nothing has any worth. It's not, however, worthless just because it doesn't lead into a job. That's something Kyle repeatedly makes a point of, which I disagree with. You don't need to live your life down a path where the end goal is acquiring money. Studying the religions of the world is not a waste of time anymore than chasing money is a waste of time, or indeed, living in general.
Then Talix argues about things religion "knew" before us, such as buddhism with quantum mechanics and hinduism with atomic weaponry, and when Kyle says he has nothing to back it up, he places the burden of research on Kyle. If you're going to make a claim, you need to be the one to back it up. You can't just write it off and say "Go verify what I say yourself", because no one is going to be bothered to do that. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Also, both of you act like dicks to each other, let's not forget that key point. At no point was this a serious discussion of religion and the way things are, but instead an intellectual pissing contest about what's important and who's living their life correctly, which is completely silly for you both to argue about. Neither of you are superior to the other, especially not because of something as simple as what you read and research, whether it be STEM or religion.
Another thing, why does it matter if at some point in time some people "knew more than we do", does that mean necessarily that everything they say is correct? Foolish to believe so. Even if they had figured out the human genome way back then, I still wouldn't take their books as law. I don't like how often Talix keeps trying to go back on this point of "people in the past knew more than people of the now", because it's only kind of true. They may have known things we don't know, or knew things long before we did, but we also know a great, great many things that they didn't know. Just knowing various things about the world does not mean you have the correct insight on the origins and nature of the universe.
In short, this whole conversation is pointless. Talix, as a so called student of religion, I don't feel you are working correctly to spread your message. You lash out and mock others, even though, from my perspective, you should never do that if you're trying to spread a religious thought. After all, and I can't speak for islam, as I haven't read the Qur'an, but most suggest that people not currently believing in the same thing you believe are misguided by ignorance, and that you should lead them into the light rather than berate them with what you "know" and they "don't". Just my $.02 on the issue.

wasn't trying to berate him, maybe i came off that way with my tone. i am not working to spread any message. i don't really lash out or mock others and if anything it's not with ill intent, esp. to "spread a religious thought".
>For starters, Kyle isn't "getting mad just because you said the word hebrew" and for you to assert such a claim is dishonest.
it was his trigger, that's pretty honest
as for the claims, read the mahabharata for the use and descriptions of such weapons, you can find them cited in plenty of other locations as well as the actual cities still irradiated, it just takes googling, i didnt want to go that far out of my way at the time to cite every little thing i was saying because i wasn't making a college paper. you can confirm things said with some simple googling.

That should be enough to make a point against you saying you don't lash out or mock others.
Moving on
| Quote: | >For starters, Kyle isn't "getting mad just because you said the word hebrew" and for you to assert such a claim is dishonest.
it was his trigger, that's pretty honest |
and yet the opening of the conversation:
| Quote: | [9:12:46 PM] Taylor Liddell: trying to pirate good torah to learn hebrew
[9:12:49 PM] Taylor Liddell: alongside arabic
[9:13:49 PM | Edited 9:14:04 PM] Kyle: religious scriptures do not promote crtitical thinking in its context |
Kyle's initial argument is that religious scriptures do not promote critical thinking. It has little-to-nothing to do with the fact that you said "hebrew", and when you claim that "Kyle is getting more buttmad just because I say that word hebrew", I think you know that you're intentionally lying and trying to make it seem as though he is unreasonably getting angry at you just because you said one lousy word. You are actively trying to make him seem like he is mad over nothing by doing so, and I believe it to be dishonest.
As far as providing your proof, of course there is nothing that says you should have to provide anything, and like you said, you're not writing a college paper. But the person you're talking to is also not actively researching religion. For you to make a claim like "hinduism described atomic warfare we have found ground zeroes " is a huge, huge claim, which I can't find any google information about after a couple searches, and also don't feel like digging around for it. So it's not a "simple search". I've found things on Brahmastra, which seems similar to what you're talking about, but not quite, as well as an article debunking your claim. (what's funny in particular is
| Quote: | | "No one that makes this claim will actually site where in the Mahabharata this claim appears. Which makes it very difficult for people to call them out on this, because the Mahabharata contains over 1.8 million words, so if you just say, “it’s in there somewhere, just trust me,” you can pretty much get away with anything. |
I will say, I'm in your camp as far as the search for truth goes. I'm not happy with pure atheism and cold science, as I don't believe they explain the truth of the universe, especially after I learned of quantum mechanics and wave collapse. However, despite you repeatedly claiming you are following the ideals promoted from various religions and philosophies, you still repeatedly act out of malice or spite.
I'm not saying so to call you out on anything, but rather to remind you of your own humanity, of your own imperfections, and to remind you that you still fall slave to your ego, the very fact that you've posted a private conversation on here to prove one point or another highlights this fact, because I can only think to point to the ego as the reason for why you would do such a thing.

I'm not a gnostic atheist, I'm agnostic, because that's the only option any sane person could rationally say. That being said, I don't think the truth of the universe can be easily explained by religion, when the solution to everything in your eyes is your faith, you fail to see reality for what it MAY be. Science isn't perfect in its ability to record and analyze the universe, but it allows for a realistic approach that doesn't involve a prophet on a Flying Donkey and decapitations in another section.

Being agnostic is the best route, I think this as well. I also agree that the truth of the universe won't just come from religion, as religion does not easily explain everything. I view religion as philosophy, as a way of living that some sect of people live by, and I think it's important not to write off the ideas they propose because of the misguided actions of its followers. (applies to all religions throughout time)
Science I love as well. It is cold, rational, and logical. Prior to learning quantum mechanics, I was sold on science being the absolute truth in things. However, with knowing that we aren't in a closed system of cause and effect, and knowing that everything is just probability and chance, science failed to be the "correct" answer, at least to me.
For the time, I recommend looking into Buddhism if you have any interest in other philosophies. I don't count it as much of a religions, as it's not a theistic worshiping group. They have a lot of ideas I like, and some ideas I don't, which is why it also isn't 100% the truth. However, there is a concept in it called dependent origination that seems to fall in line with quantum mechanics, so it has something going for it.
I think whatever the "truth" is in this world, it lies somewhere in the middle of pure science and a mix of different religions/philosophies, or rather science would be our tool to cut out the what's-not of it all.

blind to fact that kyle is opposition to religion and takes every stance he can against it
when he knows nothing about it whatsoever
there are plenty of ayas and verses that promote critical thinking.
there are plenty of sutras and upanishads, too. it's just a blatantly wrong statement. obviously it's motivated by his mad.

| The discussion was whether or not he was getting mad just because you said hebrew, not whether he was right or wrong in saying things he said. I don't see how he was motivated by you saying hebrew, but instead motivated by the fact that he thinks studying religion is foolish in itself. I think you know this as well, and are twisting words around to make him seem more childish.
