This is wrong. In the entire history of mankind fat has always been seen as attractive, being a sign of fertility and wealth. It's only in the last 150 years or so (or less?) that things started changing.
It's true that the world is getting fatter but that doesn't mean that fat people are starting to be seen as attractive, it's the other way around.
I'm not sure where I stand on the whole fat-pride culture. In a way I do think it's awful, being proud of an unhealthy lifestyle (Honey Boo Boo and whatnot), and the people who say they can't do anything about being fat. On the other hand I think it's a good thing for their mental health. I mean, so many people, especially women, try losing weight all the time but they have it really hard and they feel bad about it constantly. They start obsessing about their weight but can't succeed in becoming and/or staying slim for whatever reasons for years and years and spend a shitload of money on operations and diet products that don't do shit. I feel bad for them. Then there's all these anorexic, bulimic and orthorexic people. Maybe for these kind of people it's better to be fat and proud of it, and live a slightly unhealthy lifestyle, than to feel horrible on the inside their entire life. Maybe it's good for them to have others on the internet just like them to give them the strength to break out of this cycle.

Weight loss and diet products are a multibillion dollar industry and I think it's horrible how they prey on people with low self esteem with *new amazing miracle secret* bullshit products.

America clothing industry has slowly been making every size a bit larger, and relabeling things to accept more fat people. That 34 waist girls think they're wearing may be closer to 36 or more. Those Levi 511 and 510 that say slim and skinny? the skinny no longer exists, they moved the sizing up one so that trendy fat hipsters can feel that they can fit into skinny jeans.
Try being a 6ft average weight male. you can still be a bit chubby and large shirts will be way too big, and mediums will be too short. By making ready to wear clothing from handmade, a bigger emphasis has been put on labels and sizes rather than actual physical appearance and actually being healthy. your waist size doesn't reflect your health.
