Because of my experience as a child I cannot view true Muslims as violent or evil and it almost disgusts me to think about how hard they must be struggling in society today, with all the hate against Muslims.
I don't like religion and I do believe it, as a whole, breeds violence and hate. But some people need religion. There are also some people who are religious and are still good people. I don't like religion, but that doesn't mean I don't like people who are religious. | i hope you know that saying that "I met one good one so I think theyre all good" is just as bad as saying "I met a bad one once and now I think they're all bad" | That's not the point. The point is that there ARE good ones, and they're getting unnecessary hate towards them.

the quran warns of false-muslims who do not properly follow the commandments of islam, but yet claim to believe and follow islam.
"You will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another."
When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe." But then when they go apart with their devils, they say: "We are really with you. We were only mocking." But Allah is mocking them, and drawing them on, as they wander blindly in their excessive insolence. Those are the people who have sold guidance for misguidance. Their trade has brought no profit; they are not guided. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:14-16)
Messenger! Do not be grieved by those who rush headlong into unbelief among those who say "We believe" with their tongues when their hearts contain no faith. And among the Jews are those who listen to lies, listening to other people who have not come to you, distorting words from their proper meanings, saying: "If you are given this, then take it. If you are not given it, then beware!" If Allah wills not to guide someone, you cannot help him against Allah in any way. Those are the people whose hearts Allah does not will to purify. They will have disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter they will have a terrible punishment. They are people who listen to lies and consume ill-gotten gains. If they come to you, you can either judge between them or turn away from them. If you turn away from them, they cannot harm you in any way. But if you do judge, judge between them justly. Allah loves the just. (Surat al-Ma’ida, 5:41-42)

Yeah the title 'christian' can be somewhat embarrassing because of others who claim it. No argument there. Id still rather keep the title, act like Bill Nye, and maybe improve the image instead of abandoning it.
My point with the above though, is that people should care about another persons religion as much as they care about their hair color, eye color, skin color, gender, orientation.
Just stop being judgmental and its about 1000x easier to get along with anyone.
