lol like most ppl graduate with a cs degree can barely code in java/c++. It doesn't matter that much since most decent companies are gona train or force you to learn new shit.

Holy shit this, I thought it was a joke on how people graduate without learning anything but... being in the classes? Can confirm, no one knows shit about coding. Like, we JUST took 2 semesters worth of C++, and now we're learning Java. Like, a couple of weeks ago we _finally_ touched functions (again). Like, how is it so bad?!?

So they didn't have you code something with a linked list right on the spot? That's interesting, I would expect IBM to do something like that to make you get in, and then have you do much less algorithmic stuff once you're actually in the firm. Being good at interviews =/= being a good software engineer.

not the first round. Coding comes in the later tech interviews. The main point of the interview is make sure that you would fit into their workspace. No matter how well you code, if you are dick and can't fit into the team, u are useless. Nothing is made by a single person.

This x 1000. Interviews are all about being personable. I've never been the stiff answer every question with the "correct" answer type. I always just talk to them as if they were a friend of mine, and I've gotten called back from every interview.

That being said, I think there is a coding section, so I'll be spending the week taking coding challenges/solving standard interview problems just to make sure the information is crisp.

Hmm that's good. I'm very good at this so as long as I have an idea on what to do during the coding challenge. This is a BIG competitive advantage considering most engineering students are inept at socializing.
