Outlast really wasn't all that scary. I remember beating the game in one go on twitch and I had a poker face nearly the entire time.

I haven't gotten far at all yet but nearly woke up my neighbors last night when the first jump scare happened.

Did you play it alone at night in a dark room with a headset on?

yes

But for me, I just couldn't help but over-analyze the game and once you know it's a game meant to scare you, and not necessarily punish you it really wasn't all that scary. The AI's were meh and yeah the whole thing was really ruined for me.

Them opening lockers? Scripted to always get the wrong one

The one part where you're in a dark corridor with the AI looking for you? Even if he finds you it's beyond easy to run away and hide; he's meant to scare you more than to kill you. Once you realize that, it was pretty easy to just run past him.

I wish I could get into the game and be scared but I couldn't.
