Many reasons why people are still religious. One of the many I've heard of is that the person doesn't want to disappoint their parents.
Anyways I've seen religious people function in society but what I don't understand is why not just drop it. When it comes to common sense and facts they don't turn to their religious book (at least the ones with common sense).
When it comes to showing humanity, you DON'T need religion to do this. Humans don't need religion to be good people. Would you murder your next door neighbor if there was no religion? I've watched some Richard Dawkins documentaries and I remember a question being asked like that in a classroom in the documentary and a few students put up their hand acknowledging that they would commit murder (Or live a life of bad deeds) if there was no religion.
In this era there is proof that religion isn't needed to be functioning successful human being in society. Religion also wont prevent you from being a sick fuck in this world, this is also proven.
We live in a time where religion is dying out. People need to identify themselves in a different way when this happens.
Who are you when money, cars, clothes, religion, women, muscles, and anything else tangible solely don't define you as a human being?
Personally I'm on a journey that lets my virtues and values and intuition define me as a human being. Everything falls into place when I carry these out into society.
I personally feel if you let any of that stuff define you mostly or wholly as human being you are a lost and ungrounded individual. Do the right thing and stay out of trouble. What is the right thing? At least what I learned is don't do something to someone else that you know you genuinely wouldn't like if it were to happen to you. I didn't need religion to know this.
For those who haven't watched any documentaries by Richard Dawkins I suggest you take a look and possibly gain a different perspective.
Also Kyle I just posted that picture just to see if it would set the wood on fire and it sorta did I guess.
At the end of the day, when it comes to questions that step out of human comprehension, feel free to imagine but don't bask yourself in the light of what you already "know". Step out into the darkness of the unknown. [Take that how you wanna]
Humans have been known to die for beliefs, not so much for ideas. Kinda says something.
Perspective is everything.
I've been pretty much rambling here so don't stress too much if I contradicted myself or said some stupid stuff. Just point out whatever you disagree with.

i grew out of my durr science lets explore the fuckin galaxy and watch Cosmos all day phase. its fucking just as bad as religion and doesn't help anything. promote science all you want, it wont make people smarter, these are all philosophical problems, and those problems lead to solutions that stop the negative aspects of religion. like said earlier you cant just expect everyone to think 100% logically all the time, thats called being fucking autistic (kyle)
you could probably find tons of posts from me against religion, and saying the same things as kyle, except mine are probably more coherent. i only hope kyle learns from shit like this instead of ignoring all of us and saying "hurr youre on the internet you must be trolling"

What I am posting makes sense, if we just talk about the fundamental boundaries of which the reality we live in straight to the religious fundamentalists, address the problems with intellectual force in a way that allows for prosperity in the end, we can begin to approach the world in a way that goes beyond just religious ideals and bring the sought after goals of those religions to reality. God didn't do shit, some humans way back in the past came up with a bunch of fairy tales and ideas of what would make them and a lot of people forever happy. Good job. Now lets ditch the so called "objectivity" of the bible and its "morals". It's clear that some of the things in it are not factually correct. Let's move to a different text that is of a much larger consensus. not one that complains and fights over the origin, but what we are and what we can do for the bigger picture of life and existence itself. Worry less about how we got here, but where we can go and what else is out there. We have each other, and we don't have a choice but to live on the same planet. I'd rather not come down to killing each other because of religious beliefs. Let's isolate bad people, because they are bad people allowing the seeds of corruption to exist in others without oversight or any sort of guidance to what they may eventually do.

Promoting science will certainly help with educating people now and in the future.
Also by now I'm pretty sure a bunch of people esp in my generation who are religious feel deep down inside it's bs. Some of my friends even talk about it and it's really their own battle to let go of something they really don't need anymore.
I don't exactly understand what you're on about kyle but if you're hoping for people to realize religion isn't necessary then no need to stress. It's happening everyday.
Are you frustrated about something Kyle? Cause it seems like you are really really frustrated.

I just want to be in the future where thoughts and reality are instantaneous already is all, living in a matrix of sorts where each of us can peacefully be in our own realm of possibilities and be in others. LSD did strange things to me, but I feel I can understand what life really is better, and what it can be and where it can go if we take it there. I've become less depressed, and more socially active.

kyle why do you even worry about other people's spirituality
go be euphoric alone
you're doing the exact same thing spreading your gospel of atheism

Because their spirituality is beginning to affect American ways of life that are unwarranted, and going against the constitution of the nation. You probably don't understand as much since you're Canadian. The problem of religious fundamentalism is rising in America, and if we don't keep it down, we all lose. It will lead to more wars and the inevitability of the destruction of the planet.
