Yeah I installed Air for Steam as well after upgrading, pretty good theme, plus it fits well with the Windows 10 UI.

Yes, really. It might be related to the mild astigmatism I developed in my twenties, but sites like that are really, really hard on my eyes. When WWW was a new thing and I was a young man, I thought black backgrounds looked cool, but now I find it painful and immature.

People with astigmatism (aproximately 50% of the population) find it harder to read white text on black than black text on white. Part of this has to do with light levels: with a bright display (white background) the iris closes a bit more, decreasing the effect of the "deformed" lens; with a dark display (black background) the iris opens to receive more light and the deformation of the lens creates a much fuzzier focus at the eye.

It might feel strange pushing your primary design goals based on the vision impaired, but when 50% of the population of have this “impairment” it’s actually closer to being the norm than an impairment.
The web is rife with research on the topic, but I think these two quotes provide a succinct justification for why light text on a dark background is a bad idea. |

i have astigmatism and i dont find steam very hard to use. oof course, i only wear my glasses when im at school though

I can get around the interface fine, but if I try to read extended text (a lengthy review or a changelog, for example) I see afterimages after a paragraph and have actual pain after a page or two. You guys all have the benefit of young eyes, but give it a few years....

I had cataract surgery last year, so I know how this feels...
Dark backgrounds with light foreground was the only thing tolerable for me for the longest time, that's why I created that skin in the first place.

Wow. I'm surprised on multiple levels. Sorry. Did they do full lens replacement? Do you have nearly perfect vision now? Do you see halos when driving/etc? Did they only use local anesthesia, then force you to stay awake as they scraped off the top layer of your eyeballs?

Yep, full replacement. I just have the basic lens, which was the only one my insurance covered. I was "consciously sedated". Basically, I was passed out, but faded in and out of consciousness. Unfortunately, they performed on each eye at different dates because my insurance would only over it like that.
While my overall vision is much better, halos are actually MUCH worse now, especially when my pupils expand. I need to go back after I meet my deductible with my insurance company.
I now wear bifocals because I lost the ability to focus up close, which is really hard to get used to.
These are what I took after the procedure (blurred out some private info, of course)
