every article ive read makes it sound like all tor users are criminals... criminals arent the only ones who want privacy, so why does tor have such a negative rep?

Because people think tor = child porn or blackhat activity.

However, those have used tor don't like it for other reasons. I don't like the lag and slow internet connection I get with them, and that many sites firewall the exit node IP's, or straight up ban you for "multi-accounting". So, for me? It's not worth. Not to mention it runs firefox instead of chrome, which is another (albeit weak) reason for me to not use it.

because many websites block tor users.
e.g. this website indirectly blocks tor users from registering because their ip's have been used to spam other sites with (spambots use tor too)

not to mention the nodes can be bought

and pretty much speed rules out everything in the end all for privacy which most people could care less about

I don't bother with it since it is not secure. Plus I don't do anything on the web that justifies a need to use it anyway.
