I actually started with the 1963 version, but when i watched the first episode i was extremely dissatisfied. the dub was garbage and the animation quality was bad. I then switched to the 1980 version which was exponentially better as far as quality goes, and plus is in colour.

I'm on episode 7, and I already notice the storyline gets really repetitive and formulaic. Episode starts out normal, antagonist introduced, conflict builds, astro boy saves the day and a happy ending. I guess that is the gimmick, but it seriously gets old when marathoning the series. I might avoid marathoning this series and just watch an episode every once in awhile so the plot doesn't tire so much.

Has anyone else watched Astroboy before? Which version is best?

Nope. Watch the 1990s Spider-Man animated series instead.
