if you want to assume flying unicorns exist on Jupiter then you can do so, and then you can work on the technology to prove or disprove it. if you assume extra dimensional communication is the future step of communication and that other beings have reached it, then the next step is building the technology to prove or disprove that assumption.
since everything we're talking about here is only assumption based on our own observances, and also our own beliefs since any theory on other intelligent life is just as feasible as the next until something concrete has been found, then assumptions are the entire basis of this discussion, we're not doing research we're only throwing around ideas that we believe.
we can't completely prove anything exists, we can't prove our own existence, but we have to assume we do in order to further the research on it, otherwise we'd get nowhere |
assumptions on testable experiments can be allowed, but we are talking about theoretical physics and particle physics here. You cant test that shit, at least not yet besides like the hadron collider. but even then, there is so much shit going on we don't even understand _________________

| we're talking about metaphysics, because we can't prove or test the shit thats the basis of this discussion. thats why we have to base this stuff off our own assumptions. philosophy is more important than science in this discussion |

+1, this is very insightful. It's also why this discussion is so difficult - we assume that alien life would want to find us.
The problem with the Fermi paradox is that it is only applicable for a small galaxy that can be colonized within tens of millions of years. How many galaxies are there? More than a hundred billion? If there are stars out there whose light hasn't reached us yet and those that won't because of line-of-sight issues, then it's maybe not sensible to argue that we are alone because we haven't gotten a radio message.
Besides, have you given any thought to how you would make contact with an alien species? Are you sure it would be in a manner that would make your presence known to a significant population? Most Earthlings don't even believe in Jesus, and he walked around performing miracles and telling everyone that he was the son of God. Would a single radio message really convince anyone of alien life? _________________

| Yeah, the reason that we still haven't discovered any signs of alien life might very well be because they're not looking for us and they also don't want us (or anyone else) to find them. If they're so advanced that they found a way to live completely self sufficient for ever, why would they bother with other civilizations and spend time and resources to risk their own safety. It's more likely for them to isolate themselves from the rest of the universe IMO. |

Is God all good, all powerful, and/or existent?
Can you answer that one? |

God is another unfalsifiable concept. The God from the bible/quran that smites people down and sends you to hell is a clear case of fairy tale grade F Bullshit. If you want to believe in a "God," you should look more into Buddhist philosophy, the Pineal gland, collective consciousness, and of course mathematics and physics. _________________

| you guys are all assuming the other intelligent life MUST be more advanced than us. i dont see why you wouldnt think it possible that other intelligent life could be at the same stage as us (or behind) and also be looking for us, considering you are all basing your evidence for other life entirely on probability |

Lovecraft. And/or watch the movie. S'good.
