Me and my buddy decidded to hitch-hike all thwe way to guadalajara, from the baja.
Been taking tramadol thru the whole trip (ultram, a legal opiod), which so far gives us a really lovely experience
just yesterday we were setup by some feds, some kids offered us weed, we decided to go around a crorner to smoke (nobod could see us) and feds show up almost instantly
took half our cash :/
opiods are so good, even if this is a pretty cheap one

this
In America, the standard is to own your own car and drive one. If you don't, then you must be a medically incapable of obtaining a license, or just a bum.
Also, it wouldnt help that you are mexican. They will think you are an illegal or in shady business.
The saying in America is "if you drive a car to assist in a murder, you are just as guilty as the man pulling the trigger".
People will likely be scared and call the police if you even try lol.

Sounds awesome!
I went hitch hiking through France once, was a great experience! Recommend it to everyone!
Was with two girls though so we got rides almost instantly all the time. Probably would have been much much harder to catch a ride if we were 3 guys.
I don't think people will think you're bums if you're two young people, but idk if the states are very fun to hitch hike through. I think mostly you'll just be seeing highways. The fun thing about hitch hiking is frequent stops and exploring towns and meeting different kinds of people.

Gosh, I hope this means hitchhiking and not prostitution.

I congratulate you on your bravado. I'm sure you're making memories that will last a lifetime.
Sadly, the other guys are mostly correct... you're about 30-40 years too late to much enjoy transcontinental hitching in the US. I suspect you'd have more luck in rural areas, though picking up hitchers has become illegal in many parts of the nation. Although the stigma attached to hitching didn't really begin until the 1980s (even though the Jack Kerouac glamour was long-gone by then), it really can't be considered effective transportation anymore. Even more formal car-pooling/gas-sharing doesn't happen very much in this age of $4 gas and $100 plane tickets.
IMHO, if you're clean-cut and looking to travel the US with low/very low budget you should look into hospitality services. Don't plan on earning much/any pocket money above room and board, but there are still lots of people that enjoy meeting NICE new folks enough to tolerate putting them up for a night or two. And you'll get to eat like a local, which is pretty cool. Depending on how things go, one host might also help make arrangements for your next stop - possibly including transportation.
The best way, though, would be to hike the Appalachian Trail. LA to NY hits WAY more landmark locations than the trail, but the trail still covers almost the entire Eastern seaboard and it is probably a much safer environment for young adventurers. You can mail food/cash/supplies to strategic drop-box posts in advance, which will definitely help. And people are conditioned to seeing the hikers, so hitching a ride between legs on the route is easier. Also, you're likely to meet a lot of people if you start between March and April. It's almost a roaming party through the easy sections.
You still wanna' do TONS of research and preparation before beginning, but my hands-down recommendation is to hike the trail and plan separate, individual vacations for the major cities you wanna' visit instead of trying to hitch them all at once.
Disclaimer: I've never hiked the trail myself, but I did live just off of it (in multiple states) for many years and know folks that have hiked through.
