OK, I'll be the one diverge from popular opinion: fuck Hotline Miami.
The trippy taxi-driver vibe is great, but the graphics and gameplay are like something from 1982. You run around, and a single-hit kills you? WTF?
I despise the way shitty indie games like this and Super Meat Boy get great critical ratings - it doesn't make any sense for Hotline Miami to get a 90 rating when Saints Row 4 has a 74 on the same scale.

the graphics fit the game aesthetic and purpose perfectly. think of the movie Drive. the game is like a strategy game thats played out in real time instead of turn based. you map out the area, decide what weapons are most useful in the situation, and then in real time you have to execute your plan.
hotline miami deserves a high rating, its really original, and despite the graphics being "retro" the aesthetic is still unique. super meat boy was a very well executed platformer, and one of the first of the new wave of "indie" games so it deserves some credit as well.
and I love saints row 4, but a lot of people disliked the series direction and how ridiculous it got (which I think is stupid, because I dont want SR2 over and over again, that would make sequel pointless, and I love SR 2 3 4 equally for different reasons)

the game aint even hard. i only had trouble with like 2 levels and they were at the end, perfect difficulty curve

I bought the game when it came out. Almost done with it and hnnng fuck man just as good if not better than the first.
