| We currently have 100mb up/down, and for roughly 20 euros extra per month, you can get 500mb. When the fuck am I ever going to need a roughly 60MB per second download speed..?

you won't for at least the next 5 years
by then 4k streaming will likely be a standard and data hogs will need more bandwidth
in other words this person wants to watch one thing while the other wants a different
so they are both streaming 4k simultaneously
while the 3rd sibling is gaming and or streaming games like the ps4 now can do
all 3 while the parents are tying to surf the web ect
that is most likely going to be the typical american family in 5 years

the 4k argument isn't as big as you think it is, once h.265/HEVC is widely used, current file sizes will be half as large for the same quality.
8k tho. plus streaming video games in the future (not video game streaming)

im lucky to have a non shit provider in the US. the prices aren't bad, its pretty stable, goes down once every 2 months or so, and they don't care about piracy or their bandwidth "cap" , which I exceed every month by like 500GB
we even got rid of our cable and telephone from them and only kept the internet, and there hasn't really been any issue. I think its because Cox as far as I know isn't owned by any media corporations or has any ties to them, unlike the other 2 big ones above it Comcast which is NBC and time warner which is like everything afaik
