Cheat Engine

Hi guys.
I have tried the cheat engine tutorial and I learned how to find pointer.
I tried it in Plants vs zombies(my favourite game for testing the cheats) and I searched the pointer value, but there was too many results and I could not detect what is the pointer.
This is exactly what i did:
1-find the value of the sunshines in the game
2-go to the "find out what writes to this address"
3-changed the value, and then more information in cheat engine.
4-search the value that sayed in more information(the value of the pointer is probably ... )
5- OH SHIT! too many result.. all are black! WHERE IZZ MY MOTHEEEER?!

Is there another way to find the pointer?
another important question: What is step 5 in TUT of cheat engine? I need to do it before doing the step 5 to find the pointers?
