Yes very much so. I'll guess you are also using ddr2 ram which is pretty slow. I'd wait for AMD steamroller but its been pushed to 2014. Get an 8350, a 990 board, and some ddr3 1866mhz. Should easily do the trick.

I got 16gb for 70 bucks during a sale. Now 1600mhz is 70 dollars for 8gb. Its silly.

From what I heard it was a combination of decreasing production, and then natural disaster. I got it back right before the price went up and sold my old 8gb to a friend for 20 bucks. I run it 1866 though because OCing ram is a pain in the ass and AMD boards can't just hit XMP profiles like intel boards. I wish they would give us the stupid features intel has, but then again my motherboard is much cheaper.
