but i was wondering if anyone knows of a better pc out there
i checked best buy and the "funky monkey" (local custom pc shop) and they both sell crap alienware. not even the better ones.

i WANT insane cpu, ram and graphics card. even if its overkill. i have special plans for it

shoudl i mention that i won a contest for a free pc of my choice paid in full. so i am intentionally choosing the most expencive high performance pc i can find. ill sue them for false advertisment if they dont.

Build it yourself, order the parts from Newegg. That's $1500 and doesn't have mouse/keyboard/cd drive, and says "major brand 600w psu" and doesn't list a gpu either, and the way hes doing it is kinda..weird.

why do you want such a pc? that processor alone is $600, you don't need a $600 processor unless you're using it for some kind of heavy ass work constantly.

No SSDs? Your performance for that will be dropped without some SSDs.
also, your "free pc" might be off a list of pre-determined choices, did you read all of the ToA for the contest you won?

Get a massive ssd, faster ram, dual titans, come on think big man.
Also yeah I really doubt there's no limit on the price.

Get yourself server-grade hardware, motherboards that support 4 cpus, cpus with 10 (xeons e7) to 16 (max for opterons) cores, and a pair of dual gpu graphic cards. As for ram, serverboards commonly support 128-256 GB, though some models climb much much higher...

If plan to do some gpgpu, you can get a pcie backplane with afaik up to 18 pci slots. Enough for 9 dual gpu cards, though I'd recommend putting only 6 for cooling reasons. Remember that crossfire/SLI only supports up to 4 gpus, if you're just planning on gaming.

Some serverboards support daughterboards, it's a cards that allows to plug more cpus and that's how Microsoft build a eight*10 core xeon server for the win8 task manager demo. Yeah 80 cores in a single PC.

And if your goal is just to crank up the price, a case+redundant 1.4kW PSU alone can cost $1500+. Yes, case+psu alone, nothing else, no mobo, no drives.

Are you sure the contest organizer can pay for that? I'm not speaking about any budget limit they may or may not have set, I'm speaking about whether or not they have enough on their bank account.

'Coz you know, upgrading your school with a $500k supercomputer is nice, but killing the company that organized the contest in the process is less.

Out of curiosity, currently what does your school have?

I wouldn't even bother with this. Now that consoles are on AMD, its all AMD optimized. BF4 not only gets my 8150 to a 90% load on 64player conquest, it runs at a smooth frame rate the entire time. Not to mention with the new Mantle, games will start using it instead of DX11.

Its the age of AMD.

Hopefully it's the age of AMD. With my 8120, I expect a much better gameplay with Mantle. Let's hope that developers use it though. Who knows though? Maybe AMD's Mantle won't win vs. DX11. Let's just wait and see.

It will because otherwise they wouldn't bother making it.
AMD isn't like Microshit, they don't just copy people for the heck of it, they pioneer so that nvidia can copy them and make everything kid friendly.

the company that hosted the contest i hate with a passion. and my school uses some hybrid server from 8 years ago. i compared my home desktop to the administrator of technology and he laughed and said if they could afford newer hardware they would invest in it.
