I'm using CE 6.2 x 64bit on a windows 7 computer

After I find my health value and I go to "find the code that writes to this address", it requires me to attach the debugger and that crashes the game. I'm not sure why this is happening, any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the game has an anti-cheat.

Change your debugger options in cheat engine. (Edit->Settings->Debugger options)
Try using hardware breakpoints, and VEH/kernel debugger.
