The only downside I see about the new xbox is that it has to connect to the internet once a day. Unless if it has wifi, if it has wifi I don't see any downsides.

It is, though it's a bit more complicated. It'll be like Steam, so you can just share your account.
You can even share your entire game library with up to 10 people from your family (not sure if you and 9 of your friends can just pretend to be family or if you actually have to be family in real life).
Also, (I'm not sure if this is correct but) if a game is registered to your Xbox, you can play it even when not logged in to your account. So if you got 5 games and your friend got 5 games, and you swap Xboxes, you will be able to play your own 5 games by logging in to your account, AND his 5 games since they're registered on the Xbox.

You would be fine with that? I'm sure people don't want a bricked console when the life cycle ends.
