| so i was playing dota and my sister was watching movie online. streaming site uses flash player and java. so i got big laggs in dota 2 ; my ping was 500 and packet lost was 50%. So what manages priority over internet connection and is there any way i can force dota to use all the connection or limit her pc to use 50% of the connection? also does it matter connection speed that i've set in steam settings?

Without any major programs connected to the internet, run a ping test against google's server. You should not be experiencing that kind of packet loss.
Run command prompt (click run, type: CMD). In the command prompt window, type the following, then press enter:
Let it run for a minute, then press Ctrl+C to terminate.
If you truly are experiencing a 50% loss, you should contact your ISP.

I have that problem only when my sister watches movie online. When she doesn't watch them it is normal.

He's asking how he could limit the bandwidth that his sister uses when she streams movies.

Yes, I realize that...but if his packet loss was severe, the other problems quickly become moot.
Regarding bandwidth control, some routers have integrated bandwidth limiting and priority options. Otherwise, I have read that some people have found success with software-based 'traffic shapers'.

| Which ever PC asks for more will get priority. I have 5 other people in my house and 3 will watch netflix at once sometimes. + skype calls and spotify. It ads up.
