I have a friends laptop that icecream got spilled into. left back side, around the keyboard, a little under near the fan as well, the laptops screen will not turn on, but i can use a vga cable to a monitor and it works fine, any thoughts? none got on the screen, but some did get around one of the connection points where the top of the laptop is connected to the bottom, im assuming the cables are running though that same spot.

Well, if I were you I'd remove the battery, open up the laptop, and inspect which parts got dirty. Then clean those parts with warm distilled water and let them dry for a week before putting them back together.
I would do this even if the computer still works perfectly, to avoid unpleasant surprises in the future.
Watch out for static electricity though, it can kill your pc.

got it all apart now, the monitor connector seems fine, no icecream on it but there is some to the right a bit. gonna clean it and let it dry then see what happens, besides that spot the only other place is the bottom of the keyboard, but there's no electrical components there.
connector that isnt fully shown on the left connects to the laptop monitor, connector going out the side at the top of pic is the vga out which works fine.
edit: no dice. cleaned it all and still no output to the laptops screen. i have a friend bringing a laptop tomorrow that i did work on that i think the screen using the same connector, so ill give that a shot tomorrow

The screen itself would still work, just with dead pixels or weird colors.
No output means the connection.
If the connection was fine then the mobo is probably done for...

update: got laptop off friend with known good working screen. both laptops use the same exact screen plug.
laptop a had icecream, screen unresponsive
laptop b is fine.
if i plug laptop b's screen into the motherboard on laptop a and turn on laptop a, laptop b's screens brightness changes ever so slightly, but still no display is seen.
if i plug laptop a's screen into laptop b, laptop a's screen still does nothing when i turn on laptop b.
im going to take both screens apart next, i believe laptop b has a converter thing at the end of the cable, so maybe that's why it doesn't give a display when plugged into laptop a.
does anyone know if testing it like this is even valid? both plugs are exactly the same, different screen sizes/specs.
besides this the only way i can think of would be to order replacement parts for laptop a and replace shit one by one until it works fine, but that's a waste of money and id likely have extra parts lying around then that id never be able to use.
