best way to build Akali is to get a rune/mastery page with just enough AD to proc her AD passive, then go full on AP.

Should I get gunblade? It gives ad, and that gold could've been used somewhere else.
Wouldn't will of the ancients be better?

Depends where you're going.
Mid, go for sorc boots first.
Top, it's also safe to go Hextech Rev first.
Seeker's Armguard can be quite good top too.
Then just decide. Do you need that smidge more damage to start your assassinating spree, or can you go tankier to do damage for longer.
What I build would be:
Mid:
Sorc Boots, WotA, Lichbane/Raba, Rylai, Seeker's ->Zohnya, then the Raba or Lich, whichever you didn't build yet.
Top,
SorcBoots, Hextech rev, Seeker's, Wota, Rylai(damage over longer period)/Raba(damage overall)/Lich(burst damage) depending on what you need, etc...
