Um, this is actually a really bad time for me to be making recommendations because they're changing sockets at Intel soon, so idk if I should keep recommending the 1155 socket processors...
But, implying that this is for tower only.

Nice list. I've got a decent processor already and 8GB of RAM, as well as a nice enough case. Was just curious to see if you could turn up something better for the price.
I've taken note of the CPU cooler and the PSU. I don't do AMD gfx cards though, ever. It's not that I'm an nvidia fanboy, it's just that I don't like the AMD video cards.
Able to find a good alternative to the card in the list?

Also if it's of any importance this is the current motherboard I'm using: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z68MA-ED55--B3-.html
It's not the greatest, but it was on sale at Fry's when I grabbed it.

I'm looking to upgrade my desktop once I get paid, which is why I'm asking you about all this. You seem to be good at this stuff.

The alternative to the 7950 is a 660Ti.
I personally prefer MSI, so http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-n660tipe2gd5oc .

OHHH and i forgot in my part list to include a 1TB 7200RPM drive for $65, it wouldve made it an even 1000.

$500, gaming, video and sound production, 3d rendering.
I'm good on hard drive and case, have a 550w psu if it's enough.

Not bad, though I think I'll go for the 8350 instead and keep my 9800 gt, it's ok and I'm drooling at the 8x4ghz.
