It was real, he just didn't have the gun cocked. No bullet in chamber = no bullet comes out.

It was an air pistol which is meant to be a non-lethal self defense item, the only issue is that it is lethal from that close. It was a misfire the first time and the second time it did go off but once again its hard as fuck to do some damage with that.

Everyone believes it was another publicity stunt to win over the votes of the people.
