If you set your resolution lower than the recommended resolution, it'll be harder for your GPU.
However, setting it higher than the recommended resolution is a lot harder on it.

so if this was true, speed would primarily depend on which monitor you had and its native res

On this note, I can play BF3 on ultra @ 1600x1200 and it only uses 700mb vram. Med @ 1080p just about maxes the vram on this 6850 though.
Cannot wait to get my new mobo and be back on my rig.
