I was wondering if it is possible to scan and hack items by name in cheat engine.

Depends on how the game stores the items. If they are stored as structured chunks that include the name as part of the structure, than sure you can scan for the name and locate other values that modify the item near it. Such as attack power, speed, bullet types, clip sizes, etc.

But it mainly depends on how the game stores and handles the data.
