If this is correct, I'm fucked. I've been trying to update mine to 5.1.1, and it's impossible. I've used absinthe, greenpoison, redsnow, tinyumbrella, snowbreeze, and nothing works. I was able to create a custom stitched ipsw but it wouldn't restore with itunes. Not even the official firmware 5.1.1 works.

Wow, apple giving the finger to old hardware users and forcing them to buy new hardware. That's so strange..
Oh wait, it's their main business strategy

Sounds more like someone rubbed their shit all over your hands and ears, and then you said "oh my god you're so generous, thank you!"
You can scratch that, as it is not how I actually feel. I always see people bash on Apple products, so I figured I'd throw in a line just for the fun of it. I have an iPhone which has worked without a problem for the 2,5 years I've had it now. Never had to send it in for repairs, and the only time it's off is when the battery dies out (which is almost the same as when an S3 runs out of battery life). For work I have a Macbook Pro, which works great for development purposes. Similar to my iPhone I have not yet had any problems with it, but I've only had it for a year now. So, so far I've had two Apple products which both have not yet died on me, and do exactly what they are supposed to do.
I suppose most of you bash because you are fanboys and are extremely biased, or have only seen an Apple product and never owned one. Now of course the 'Why would I pay 2000 dollars for a laptop while I can buy one for 1200 dollars with the same specs?' will come up in a possible reply, which is true. The Apple products are pricey, but when work offers one you'd gladly take it, most likely over a regular laptop with the same specs. Why? Because simply put it's better than a regular laptop. Every detail they thought of. From the intuitive OS, the solid casing, the HD screen, to the magnetic power cord. It's a comfortable machine on the outside and the inside. Aside from the price there isn't really anything to bitch about. Can't play games or use certain software? Well find an alternative, or use bootcamp and use a Windows OS. Mind you that I don't really consider this to be Apples fault, because the libraries used are bound to Windows. Blame developers for their inability to reach multiple platforms. The price is only a factor because you can't afford it. Which isn't something bad (to be honest it was a bit too pricey for me as well, but work got me one), but it's not something you should bash others for who can afford it.
In reality you know that you can't replicate a Macbook Pro, so next time you bash someone with "OMG you're so stupid I could've build you the same machine for hundreds of dollars less" you need to shut the fuck up, because you really can't.

Sorry for the unclarity mate, I only quoted you for the joking first sentence. The rest is a general statement, not directed explicitly towards you. That's why I said most of you.

Clearly never worked with one for a prolonged period of time, nor did you read everything I wrote. Also, I'd like to see you build a machine able to develop for every possible OS, desktop/laptop or mobile. That's right, you can't.

First off I believe every bit that apple deserves to be bashed
And here is why
I had an ipod classic it was god tier epic and better than anything else which is why it was okay for its price
Their product was simply great and revolutionary
I loved that apple the new apple is a sack of shit
They come out with new os updates and phones that are not open source and if you dont keep buying new phones yearly even though you are under a two year contract you get left behind not only that but now they are not made by the top quality manufacturers like asus
and they are not better than at everything else as a matter fact a lot of producers are better for less cost. the new Apple makes lesser quality products that are not as good as the competitors that cost more are not open source and quickly outdated
as for customer service yes they are still great even better than before but they are not the only ones
I also owned iphone 3g
I dont really bash or hate Apple I just completely disagree when someone says its better or trys to diss the competition
TL; DR you are paying more money for same/lesser specs closed source and good customer service. Basically your pating for brand name based on history when that history has changed.

Here are the reasons why I dislike Apple products in reply to Augustine.
I use Mac's every day in my school but only in Photography and Digital Media (film editing). In photo we have some older Mac's, around 3 to 5 years old. The monitors have been dying in the computers. Not 1 or 2 out of the maybe 40 or 50 computers in the room but the majority of the screens are dying and many pixels going bad. Most of the time the only fix is to buy a new monitor which are typically found on ebay for $70+. Apple has acknowledged this problem and did replace them for a while but now they do not and just want you to buy new ones.
I also had the same problem AsciiCat did long ago (I sold it now), I found I couldn't use any new apps on my 2nd generation, flawless cosmetically itouch. Slowly as most of the apps you use become unavailable to you.
It could be argued this is because the code couldn't possibly work on the older models. But I'm sure they could come up with something....
