You need to initially have ads. You can always change that later, but you need initial capital if you want to make future decisions. 1) Nothing wrong with adsense (except they wont like you due to your sites content)

2) People only pay for stuff if they know its good or has a reputation. Maybe have VIP features like a lot of sites where you dont have ads and you get a wider selection.
