To keep yourself warm.
In the earlier days of man the earth's climates were a lot harsher in some places than they are today. Extremities could freeze easily, that is why you have hair around your balls and dick, around your arse and also on every other part of your body.
Homo neanderthalensis was a lot hairier than we are today and some of the hair is quite obsolete in most cases (on your arms and legs) but the basic idea of the hair was to keep you warm. |

That's common sense.
Nowadays overgrown ass hair is useless, people should shave that shit.
