Because playing league of casuals is so much fun. I'd rather have no selection of characters when I start playing as well as not having a deny system or anything other than basic!
There's a really good post written by Destiny that explains that you can't have a successful eSport if you don't cater to casual gamers properly.
I dont have to read it, I assume it says that if its catered to casuals that means more people can get into it as a spectator and understand it better. Its just dum for dota2 players to circlejerk over their skill when they will never have a scene big enough for them to compete against other competent players

Dota2 is huge actually, but not as big as LoL. Considering the fact that it's in beta still too it's actually really impressive how huge Dota2 is already. What I'm saying is that it's not people understanding it that matters, it's just that if it doesn't cater to casuals, the game isn't profitable for advertisers. If you only have super keen players playing and that's it, you won't get nearly as many people seeing the advertisements for companies and therefore ads pay a lot less and the game will die because the people that want to just play to have fun aren't involved and eventually the whole mindset of getting better will get very boring because of so little change and so little reason to play past improving/keening.
tl;dr: LoL may be more casual, but that's almost entirely the reason it's such a successful eSport and it's very important to have that casual element in a game. Dota2 is a lot less forgiving to new players and for that reason isn't quite as popular when it comes to player numbers and spectators, but it's still not as bad as say, Starcraft 2 in that way and because of that it's successful still.
