|
|
i have my old pc that i kept as backup if my main broke but it crapped out on me not too long ago lol. It shows no video whatsoever. Also at first it just kept restarting like every 3secs so i thought it was the ram or PSU but i got a new one today and no change. I cleared the cmos and it does not restart anymore rofl so the old psu also works i guess but still no video. I also tried taking out all the ram and just put in 1 stick and swap between 4 of em but no change, tried diff monitors too. The GPU should be working fine but i tried onboard video and still no image at all nor any beeps. Its a kentsfield quad core so there may still some use to it. So did my mobo get fcked? i cant think of any other reason there is no video at all and don't have any spare 775 mobo to test it.

i tried both, my old ass spare nvidia 8600 and then i took it out and tried the onboard connector but no difference. Before when it still worked and i tried the onboard with a GPU installed it beeped but now not even beeps with or without.

yeah the fans and hdd spins like it usually would but nothing else.
Also i tried to plug in the speakers to see if i get the boot into windows sound but seems like it does not lol, and just noticed that the usb ports might not be working.

Look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
Any of your capacitors looking like that?
If yes: replace mobo or pull out the soldering iron.
If no: imo it's either the cpu or the mobo. Since clearing the cmos worsens the problem, I'd bet on a dead mobo.

hmm did not find dead caps like those. I don't think dead cpu would cause no video, i would prolly see the mobo logo or some error at least. Clearing cmos actually fixed the first problem which was the constant rebooting like every 3secs.

As little to no sense as that made, no cpu function, no boot.

Perhaps it's your ram
Or your cpu is overheating. Does the cooling block feel hot?

any way to make sure its the cpu other than putting it in another board? looked up dead cpu symptoms and it seems similar but other components can cause similar problems. I could buy some mobo but it would be a waste it it rly was the cpu.

i don't think its the ram, i tried swapping 1 at a time between 4 sticks unless they all could die at the same time? And i cleaned out the cooler regularly before and its still clean. Will try touching the heatsink later to make sure tho.

^i looked around before while looking for dead caps and nothing was blown or weird looking and i already cleared the cmos few times.
Anyways i got it to work just now, what was broken? nothing it seems...This was the weirdest shit yet. I got my hands on another PC w/ same socket and tested my CPU in it. It worked fine so i thought; ah so its the mobo that is dead but since i took out the CPU out of that other PC so might as well put it in my old pc and the mobo that should be dead. It fcking booted up on first try, video was back and i still have no clue what the problem was if all the parts are working...fck.

how to distinguish them if theres no physical dmg? This old cpu is a locked cpu so it was not OCed at all.

| Yea I was just making a point these things can be broken and not show physical damage. It may have just stopped. The only way to really pin point it is to try each object with different parts.
