I'm looking for a 500-550W modular PSU, I'm not trying to spend too much money. What would you guys recommend?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017&Tpk=ocz%20600w

This one is semi modular. I'm personally a fan of OCZ psu. I have an 850w fully mod in my pc and my sisters got passed down a 500w that looks like this one. They still work after 2 years. I even did some OCing on mine and it handled it perfect. Only he 20+4 and the 4+4 are non modular.

Same psu in my system, I have had it for 4+ years and no problems at all. All the while feeding my GTX 275 which is a power hungry beast(40 amps). I definitely recommend OCZ's Mod stream.

Another vote for OCZ.

I have this one personally: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341044

ZX series is for 700w+ I think. I don't see any mod streams lower. The fatality ones look cool too.

Corsair and OCZ were once brand names that computer builders could blindly trust. This was because both companies basically released re-badged power supplies from quality manufacturers under different specs.

But now, there are reported cases where sub-par capacitors have been found in different models from Corsair, OCZ, Antec, etc. These bad capacitors have a history of high failure rates. They are usually found in, but not limited to, the budget line PSU's.

It really depends on your intended build. If your rig has expensive components inside, then you do not want to take the risk of el cheapo power supply. Especially under a constant heavy workload, it would be like waiting for the impending "Snap, Crackle, and Pop!"

Do the research on the specific unit, even if it is a brand name power supply!
