If I make an email account using my own domain, will I lose access to the email account once the domain expires?

My plan is to purchase a domain for one year, solely to have an email address like [email protected]. I plan on using the Gmail/Hotmail services to do this. You know, when they ask you to verify your ownership of the domain, they give you a bit of code to put into your site's index or something, then you click "Verify".

So once the domain expires, would I lose access to the email account?

Also, if I get to keep the email, will I ever have to reconfirm my ownership of the domain in the future to have further access to the email account?

Because I want to have a definite answer before finding out on my own that the email on my business card/resume is no longer accessible.

Yes, I think the emails would stop coming. Also the reconfirming is unlikely, but that's totally up to hotmail/gmail teams.

ah... well, if that's the case, I'll probably stick with using the regular Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail domains then. Thanks for the help!
