In all seriousness though, the fact of the matter is that the Humble Bundle is gradually turning from a great incentive to donate to charity to a mediocre incentive to donate to charity.

Whether it's still technically a deal or not is irrelevant. People will donate if they think they are getting a big bonus for their donation. When Humble Bundle starts taking away from that bonus, the average Joe who doesn't normally donate to charity might not see it as worth his money.

That's why it's bad for Humble Bundle to start jewing out like they're doing. When they're not willing to make a sacrifice for charity, neither will everyone else.

Actually, this change was made because people only donated pennies for the games being offered and the bonus just wasn't enough-- oh, and people ended up selling the Steam keys in the end. So all the power to them, if you raise a $1,000 for charity and you can't add another dollar, you're shit out of luck.

What a self-centered mindset. You're more of a Jew than the kind folks of Humble Bundle...

I'm just looking at the big picture. Most people are very self centered, and on this path, it won't be long until people think "You know, it's actually not worth donating to charity for that."

People don't care about where their money goes for the most part, they just like the idea of getting 4 games for a dollar.

Yeah they're really going downhill by giving you options to get games for much cheaper than they originally were, and by added lots of really good games like LIMBO

You're missing the point.

If it's still a good deal, it's irrelevent. You are right that it's still cheaper than getting them regularly. The important part is that Humblebundle is cheapening up on their previously excellent good deal. Sometimes it's not that I can't afford a dollar, but that if I wanted to, I could give them a cent and get 6 steam keys.

It's like how a lot of people (like myself) pirate games made by large corporations, but buy games for full price that are made by indie developers. Because those guys deserve my money for their work.

Likewise, in the past, Humble Bundle deserved my 1 dollar for giving such a great deal. Now, they have to make me feel crappy about giving a dollar because if I didn't, I wouldn't get steam keys? I may as well pirate the games. Is that really necessary?

Another analogy I like to use is it's like giving a kid candy and telling him, "if you don't eat this candy, I won't give you anymore candy for a week." He was going to eat it anyway, so why threaten to take something away?

And the one last thing worth noting is that the developers, humble bundle, or the charities are not losing anything by selling more copies at a lower price versus less copies at a higher price, other than the former making more people happy. This would be a whole different story if there were actual physical goods in question. But there's not.

That's why I think that Humble Bundle shouldn't put restrictions on donations, and should instead go back to the original way of doing things. Again, this isn't because I feel I'm not getting a good enough deal from them, but because I think that in the long run people will feel better about giving them their money and it is a better system.

I read like, 10 words of that. They ask for a bit more money for the cause in exchange for a game that is worth more than the others in some ways. Maybe that's the only way they could get the deal with the game's developers..? Stop whining, there is nothing wrong with it and you're dumb.

I have a suggestion, how about you thoroughly read what I just spent time to write instead of telling my "didn't read, you're dumb"? Suppose that maybe if you read it, you might change your mind on the matter?

You clearly don't understand the point I'm trying to make. I'm not whining. You can just look at it on the surface and say "It's still a better deal than buying the games, so there's nothing wrong" or you can look deeper than that and think about what's really the best way.

You don't understand anything about the way the companies work or why they've made certain choices and you're whining a lot about how something costs more money to get. You don't understand fucking anything about it and I don't really understand why you are pretending that you do.

I believe so, yeah. I was in college doing game design for a bit and it makes sense to me that a company would try to make a bit more if an idea wasn't viable financially otherwise. Like why not say people can have a bonus if they pay a bit more? It's much better than just not having that in the package at all imo.

First and foremost, it's irrelevant who's to blame for these restrictions. If it's the game developers and not humble bundle, then fine, they're the ones who should get the message I'm trying to get across.

Now that I have that out of the way, >Whining.

I won't say that it isn't common for people to whine about things being too expensive, but honestly, don't just assume that because this has to do with the price of something, it doesn't mean I'm "whining". I'm only using the first person as an example, I'm trying to represent what the effect might be on the customer.

I really do stand by my opinion and you haven't done much to convince me otherwise. Your retorts have basically amounted to "didn't read what you said, you're dumb," "you're whining" and "you don't know what you're talking about." I actually think I do know what I'm talking about, but I'm not going to spout off my credentials because I don't think I should have to qualify myself to you in order for you to take me seriously.

And then you said one other thing which I can see the logic behind, which is "It's still a good deal so stop whining"

To which I stand by my reply: You can just look at it on the surface and say "It's still a better deal than buying the games, so there's nothing wrong" or you can look deeper than that and think about what's really the best way." And I really think that it is better for the Humble Bundle to not put restrictions on how much money you need to donate in order to get steam keys, extra games, etc.

I've been trying to be nice because I actually have genuine interest in making you see what I'm trying to say. And for that matter, I'm genuinely interested in having my own mind changed with a logical argument that would make me agree with it. But frankly, you've been nothing but mean and my jimmies are mildly rustled.

You've known me for quite a while man, you should really be used to me swearing and stuff. Also I've been exposed to Cryoma recently so forgive me for it being a bit excessive. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I disagree because it seems like all they did was add a game on that would usually be much more valuable than the other games, and the way they've got it in the pack (for a great deal, but not QUITE as good as the others) is by saying people can have it if they go over the average. I see nothing at all wrong with that and I think they'll make more money in the long run. It's like $6 or something so where as before they would give away a bajillion copies of the game for just a cent, they now will have people wanting to pay a little bit more. That coupled with the fact that you have to pay $1 to get Steam Keys, which is a tiny amount of money anyway and it's for a convenience most people will pay 99 cents more for given the chance. If you put the option of $1 for most games or $6 for all of them including one that should cost more (but is in the bundle through some crazy ass awesome deal) to 6 people, more than 1 in 6 of the those $1 dollar people would be like yeah sure that game's pretty good I'll pay an extra $5 for it no problem. That would not happen if they gave it away anyway, and they'd make much less in the long run.
