I'm pretty ok with grinding games, can't give any particular reason why though. Guess it's just the excitement in leveling up or finding an item or something.
The Digimon MMO is pretty much nothing but grinding, but it's still pretty damn enjoyable. I don't care for PvP in any MMO though, so I don't really care how shit the PvP would be.
Obviously it wouldn't use the same battle system, because that would be pretty shit for an MMO. | so what youre saying is you want a generic mmo that isn't like pokemon in any way except that it has pokemon in it. it would fail completely just like swtor is failing because its just a generic mmo with star wars.

A Pokemon MMO, in which you train and evolve your Pokemon would be successful, no doubt... so long as they don't do stupid shit like SWTOR.
And it wouldn't be generic because it would have Pokemon. That alone would bring about drastic differences from other MMO games. I'm not saying the name would make it better, I'm saying the concept of being able to capture and evolve hundreds of creatures is unique as it is.
And hell, if they made it free-to-play they could bring in more customization and variety, not to mention a larger player-base.
Also, now that I think about it, the battle system could be kept. But it wouldn't isolate the player from the environment or anything, just keep the same turn-based mechanics and whatnot.

That still would make a terrible mmo, mmos are all stats, so is pokemon, it would serve no purpose to catch more pokemon than you need, because you wouldnt want to essentially grind 6 characters over and over because its 'fun and unique', mmos need to have a purpose to make you keep playing, and everything in pokemon is the opposite of that, going around and capturing pokemon for the sake of having them, grinding pokemon up just to do pvp or beat the elite four which isn't enough end game content, mmos need to last forever and have no completion to them, while pokemon needs an end and some goal for completion, no matter how you'd design the game the only reason people would play it is because it is pokemon, but considering pokemons demographic, f2p with micro transactions and pay to play would fail because little kids dont have enough money, this would lead to less and less content being updated, to what would already have very little end game.
Nintendo also doesnt know shit about mmos or any form of online, and theyve stated before pokemon wont have an mmo:
http://www.vg247.com/2009/03/22/pokemon-creators-no-mmo-coming-any-time-soon/
everything pokemon is and everything that makes a good mmo contradict each other, unless you make drastic changes to pokemons formula, then it wont become an mmo, and if that does happen most people would feel it went in the wrong direction

I don't want an MMO version of a Pokemon game, I just want an MMO from the Pokemon universe. There WOULD be drastic differences between the handheld games and the MMO.
Nobody complained when Pokemon Stadium didn't let you embark on an epic journey, we all just played the shit out of it to have fun. If it wasn't Pokemon it would have been a bad game.
The very fact that Pokemon is so known and so popular would make such an epic announcement an instant success. I have no idea why you think F2P with micro transactions would fail, a lot of kids that play F2P MMOs manage to get their parents to pay for stuff. I'd be lying if I said I never bought cash-items on Moople when I was a kid...

Microtransactions = pay to win
I refuse to play games that require more than one purchase.
If it's reoccurring or micros I simply won't do it.
I would rather drop $100 or more on a quality game and own it forever than have to worry about payments after I've already started playing.

The reason MMOs have reoccurring fees is so they can continue to make content for the game after the players have completed the end game. In the case of a pokemon mmo, which COULD work the way up2 put it, you could buy skins for your pokemon or your trainer, to set yourself different from other players, and exp boosters I dont find make you have a significant enough advantage to others, but they would of course have to be sold after the game is out for some time so that the release everyone has fair ground to become the best

Ok well games that have strictly cosmetic purchases are ok I guess, but I'd rather be able to unlock them or buy them with points only.
Games like mapplestory are stupid cause you can drop a few grand on it and win the game.
I know of people that have.
And sure MMO's have server costs, but MMO's are never good anyway.

And sure MMO's have server costs, but MMO's are never good anyway. | So you want a system similar to Champions? Shit's perfect. For the most part everything is cosmetic, but you can find cosmetic items and earn in-game currencies to purchase certain items as well. Granted most of the items can only be earned by paying... it's like the only MMO that I've bothered putting money into multiple times. The only reason I've grown so addicted lately is because of the ability to grind for that in game currency.
But yeah... Pokemon with a bunch of customization would be nice.
