hell, almost all of our different breeds of dogs are exploitation of the process of evolution, giving 'birth' to new breeds of dog.
i don't think he was talking specifically about sexual reproduction. it depends on which definition of birth he was using. maybe he was though. idk. |
I doubt he was using it with that intent considering his phrasing. I'd also make the point that dog breeding does not introduce new traits rather it amplifies or diminishes preexisting ones. I'm not going to say that does not constitute evolution as I honestly have little idea what the word is on artificial selection. According to the Oxford dictionary, evolution is "develop[ment] over successive generations as a result of natural selection" however it's such a broad subject that I haven't actually explored very far. I wouldn't really trust one definition to be the final word on the matter.
Birth, in terms of how babby is formed, following the medical definition, necessitates a parent. As viruses replicate via binary fission there is no real parent cell only two presumably identical new cells which once were whole.
Finally, considering his wording, "everytime anything is born", I find it hard to reconcile your example. More likely he was talking about how evolution allowed us to be born. That sentence was a response to his imagined student's question of "Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?" so in its entirety his whole answer was poorly thought out. Even if he was talking about evolution's apparent part in our creation allow us to be born birth is in no way definitive proof nor does it hold direct correlation to evolution. Case closed?
I lack the drive to actually check what I just spewed onto the forum. Probably a few grievous crimes against logic above.
