Didn't you read my reply? He already has a codebase which represents a large investment of time and effort. Rewriting it to a different language yields no significant advantages but would be a pedantic waste of time. Consider his case to be one of a startup and consider also his current skill set.
You described Java as poor performance-wise. Firstly, this is a childish and one-sided knee-jerk opinion that does not represent the current state of the language. If you read current research on Java performance, you would know this. Secondly, recommending a different implementation language at this point is silly because of how much he has put into the project already. For me (perhaps you) to reproduce what he's done in another language would be trivial, but that is something you have to take into account. He is not me (or you). Switching implementation language at this point would be an idiotic and irresponsible choice for him (especially if he's about to accept funding). Critiquing language features and the VM implementation served no purpose to the discussion at all.
Your posts seem to have been made without any consideration to the current scenario whatsoever. It is apparent that what you say is not only irrelevant, but baseless. I hope OP does not damage his chances of success by taking what you say seriously.

I wasn't recommending him to switch his current codebase, I was simply stating that Java has poor performance in my opinion (though it has been proven that it has poor performance in regards to other competing VMs, even within other implementations of the Java VM). As to serving no purpose to the original discussion, I know. The conversation simply started from a comment I made to joke about Javas performance, something I didn't really expect.
As to the current scenario, I made no recommendation or opinion on it whatsoever, the only time I did comment on it was when I stated that I had no opinion on his product since I was not qualified to judge it.
P.S.: When I say Java, I am speaking of the Sun/Oracle Java VM and language implementation.

| If you're not suggesting/recommending a change of language, why bother to elaborate so much on how it's possible for him to use Ruby or whatever? You sure seemed to be arguing that case, even asking me to list contradictions to your arguments. Were you arguing for the sake of argument?

I was arguing for the sake of getting your side of things. Arguments are the best way to exchange ideas, assuming the arguments don't degrade to name calling and physical violence.
As to why I chose Ruby, simply because its another language I know and one I prefer. I suppose other languages could have done for comparison, but I wouldn't have experience to parallel with Javas case.

All he did was doodle on some paper and now you guys are bitching about Java.
Anyway good job Zack, I hope to see a little plastic circle of signatures in guitar center soon.

Pretty much what I was about to say. He's interested in what my programs do and all that, but he's more concerned with the paper tool I made a while back. Two spinning circles and a semi circle. Reworked it now and it has 19 scales available, and a chord reference capable of inversions as well. 4 full circles now, and it's grown about 2 inches, but I can shrink it down once I finish making the design in gimp. If it ends up happening, I'll try to market it as close to 5 dollars as possible, even if I'm barely getting profit from them. I don't like the idea of overcharging for stuff I think a student should have.
Also, I ignored the rest of the thread because it really didn't apply. I didn't know how to thread at the time, and when I mentioned the problem has to do with the library itself, I was right. Even the developer of the library admitted that. Threading it actually causes it to delay the first 2 notes, and the built in pause and stop controls don't work(or at least didn't, idk if there's a new version)
Edit: and the financial backing would be only for the physical music theory device.
Edit 2: The trip was to do a visitation for MIT and he also wanted to offer me a grant as well as the opportunity to take some tests more akin to gifted testing. I decided to wait until I start thinking about graduate school
Edit 3: I reworked the basics of that program some time ago(around cristmas) in eclipse from scratch and I think I cleaned it up quite a bit. Here's the applet, I'll post the source when I find it http://kazekeil.blogspot.com/2011/12/fractalmuse.html

You don't even need minor scales written down, because if any person who knows anything about music should know it relative major, which cuts it down by a lot

I stated that it's as unpresumptuous as possible. Period. I want anyone to be able to buy it and use it, which is why I decided one side will have everything based off a center circle of 5ths, and the other side's center will be the 12 tones in normal order. Which side to use will be up to the user, but they will be connected in a way that if a C minor is formed on the 5ths side, it'll line the other side up in it's c minor position.

Pretty much. I'm really resisting a very strong urge to show you guys a picture of the new one, but the meeting ended up being for tomorrow(which is better). I'm getting kinda excited actually lol.
