Cheat Engine

So i downloaded command and conquer tiberian dawn ahhh good old days from http://cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=15

it is now freeware so feel free to download.

I have tried to hack the game using cheat engine but all i ever find is the value for the money digits going up and down not the actual ammount of money even if i do a unknown number scan thing still cant find it.

So i have turned to Hex Editing the save

A site i went to told me to do this.
Hex edit you saved game files, and search for the first instance of the word "computer". Go back 70 bytes (46 hex) and insert the string FF FF FF 7F. Save the file and now you should have about 2 billion dollars.

ok so i can find computer but what the hell does he mean go back 70 bytes (46) hex

is it up or down the list from the string Computer which i found at the address 0000e580.

hopfully u guys can help me out as im a noob really never hex edited any save.

thanks so i know to look up from it but how do you count up 70 bytes?

or 46 Hex do i just search for 46 Hex?

look at this

FF FF FF 7F

it is 4 bytes because each opcode is a byte. So all you have to do is go up 70 bytes and insert the given bytes. You don't even have to count them manually, there should be a function in the hex editor to go forwards/backwards given number of bytes.

thanks for the help found out how to edit the right place however it still doesnt do anything i also found this.

Use a hex-editor for your saved game. Change dec.-position 1412..1414 to FF FF FF.
Then find the first word COMPUTER. From this location
go back 70 bytes. Change the new position to FF FF FF.
If you're playing NOD do the same with the second word
COMPUTER. In both cases you'll get over 16 millions.

what does it mean by Change dec.-position 1412..1414 to FF FF FF only thing is how do i find this?
